Creating an Immersive Meeting Space: Translating the Memories of the Disaster into a “Lived Experience” / Fukushima Koriyama LL Town
"Fukushima Koriyama LL Town," planned and developed by Fukuda and Partners Co., Ltd., is a multi-building logistics hub that possesses dual functions: a "logistics base" during normal times and a "disaster prevention base" during emergencies.
The development of this facility was driven by the company's own experience in the recovery efforts following the Great East Japan Earthquake, where they acutely realized that "delivering goods is protecting lives."
To prevent the memories of the disaster from fading and to pass them on to the next generation as a practical, actionable solution, they have installed the "Immersive Engine" and "Immersive Magic Wall" in a large conference room within one of the buildings.
End Client: Fukuda and Partners Co., Ltd.
Partners: NTT EAST, Inc., PDC Co., LTD.
Elevating Disaster Transmission and Education to "Active Participation" Through Immersive Experiences
The immersive visual space created by the Immersive Engine and Immersive Magic Wall serves not only to share the conditions during a disaster but also as a communication hub that promotes practical disaster prevention and collaboration among industry, government, and academia.
◾️ As a "Stage for Transmitting the Disaster" Through Disaster Prevention Education
The Immersive Engine transforms the entire conference room into a digital disaster site, while the Immersive Magic Wall vividly renders the intensity of the situation, creating an overwhelming immersive space that places participants directly into the scene. This environment serves as a catalyst for individuals to consider the disaster as a personal, immediate event.
Moving forward, this immersive system is expected to be utilized for disaster prevention education and regular drills in collaboration with affiliated companies.
◾️ As a "Space to Deepen Discussion and Accelerate Decision-Making"
The true value of this space lies in its seamless transition from a visceral immersive experience to active, focused discussion.
Through intuitive tablet operation, the Immersive Engine freely deploys all data related to logistics and disaster prevention planning, enabling the simultaneous display of multiple pieces of information. By projecting this shared line of sight across the entire 270° wall, communication is activated, directly linking to rapid decision-making.
Engaging in dialogue across generations and positions, grounded in a shared immersive experience—this process itself is the very act of passing the lessons of the disaster to the next generation.
Future Outlook
For companies responsible for social infrastructure that "protects human lives," formulating a BCP (Business Continuity Plan) and engaging in daily disaster prevention efforts are indispensable preparations for times of crisis.
In this case, the immersive space functions not merely as a "practical meeting place" in normal times or a "disaster prevention base" in emergencies, but also plays a critical role in the "transmission and education of disaster memories."
Through the creation of immersive spaces and the intuitive sharing of information, Immersive, Inc. will continue to powerfully support the activities of all those who sustain our vital infrastructure.
