Consolidating a Complex Video Projection System into a Single Engine — Creating a Presentation Space That Broadens the Scope of Proposals

AZA CORPORATION (Itabashi-ku, Tokyo) is a company that, with video and audio at its core, handles everything from permanent spatial staging to equipment rental, events, and video production as a one-stop service. It has built its business on “creating imagery, and creating spaces through imagery.”

This time, on the busy negotiation-and-meeting floor where many customers visit, the company remade its largest conference room into a “conference room that doubles as a showroom,” adopting Immersive Engine and Immersive Magic Wall. It is designed as a place where the company’s own technology can be experienced firsthand, on the spot.

Searching for a more impactful form of proposal, the company encountered a system that completes everything in a single package and a paint that elevates a wall’s rendering power — and the real sense of promise it felt there was the starting point.

The Challenge Before Adoption

Even for a company of video-and-audio professionals, proposing immersive spaces such as showrooms and conference rooms always came with the complexity of the system. The more equipment that had to be assembled, the more design man-hours piled up, and costs swelled as well.

To realize what they wanted to do, the equipment could run to ten, twenty, thirty units. Racked up, that meant roughly 12U to 24U (1U is about the height of a person’s waist). That much takes up installation space at the client site and adds to assets, and — because more equipment means more upkeep — maintenance grows heavier too. When a problem occurs, it can lead to exchanges where each piece has to be traced back to whichever company installed it.

There were also challenges in the visual expression itself, in guaranteeing the desired quality. With projector projection, a white wall scatters light and blows out to white, while a gray cloth weakens color reproduction. How to bring out crisp contrast was reexamined as well.

The larger and more complex the space, the more this burden of assembly and this wall of contrast became a shackle on broadening proposals further.

Both the effort and cost of assembly come down, and the scope of spatial proposals widens dramatically

・A completeness that bundles equipment into one, reaching even areas that were hard to propose

A setup that had been assembled from ten to thirty pieces of equipment now comes together in the single package of Immersive Engine, with the rack fitting into roughly a third of the space. Cost, installation space, and the burden as an asset all grow lighter, and the labor and cost that went into design and procurement are curbed as well. Even permanent-space projects that had been hard to propose — because the sheer volume of equipment was a sticking point — can now be proposed with ease.

・A rendering power that stays crisp even in a bright room, letting them propose the space itself, imagery and all

Immersive Magic Wall resolves the long-standing dilemma of white-out on white walls and weakened color on gray cloth. Contrast comes through clearly, both vivid colors and near-black tones are easy to make out, and projection works without trouble even in a somewhat bright space. Beyond the imagery alone, it becomes easier to propose an entire space that makes use of imagery.

・Intuitive operability that keeps running even when the person in charge changes

Operation takes just a single tablet. With an intuitive UI that anyone can handle without specialized knowledge, it is easy to explain, and it can be operated without trouble even when a new person takes over. Operations that had tended to grow complex now come together simply, and the reassurance that it keeps running even after adoption becomes a boost to proposals.

Looking Ahead

In addition to events, which have been its main arena, the company’s scope of proposals is expanding toward permanent-space projects such as showrooms and conference rooms.

Moving a step beyond the convention that a conference room means a screen and a projector, the entire wall surface is used to make meetings more efficient and to carry through even to presentations for visiting customers. That added value can now be delivered as a package that keeps design man-hours down.

Immersion cannot be conveyed without being experienced. That is precisely why having a single room where it can be felt on the spot carries such meaning. A conference-room-cum-showroom that lets the company show its own technology in a sellable form will become a solid asset supporting the proposals to come. Immersive will continue to walk alongside that expansion of their business.
